Update on the charity walk that wasn't.

Last week I shared that I would be participating in a weekend charity walk for breast cancer survivors.  Sadly, our walk did not happen.  I got up Saturday morning to thunder and lightening.  I was hoping that it would blow over by the time the walk started.  It rained on me the whole way there but as soon as I pulled into the parking lot it stopped.

I thought that would be a good sign.  But as soon as my team captain arrived and I met up with her, the bottom dropped out again.  Within 3 minutes we were soaked to the bone.  But walking in cold rain is nothing compared to battling breast cancer so none of us really thought we should complain.

We were still ready and willing to walk...then the lightening started.  It was a little scary to be outside holding umbrellas with lightening all around.  The event coordinators checked the radar and told us that they were calling the walk.  They didn't think it was safe for everyone to be out in the elements like that.

Hopefully it will be rescheduled and we can still participate.  My friend Tracy and I still want to do it so even if it isn't rescheduled, maybe she and I can do it on our own.  That's the plan.

I would like to say thanks and send out big hugs to everyone that donated to the effort.  I was able to reach my goal of raising $400!  Thank you all so much.

And as I promised, here are a couple of pictures taken during heavy rains.

The first one is me waiting to check in at walker registration.

This one is of my good friend Barbie that I haven't seen in forever and a day, me, and then my friend and team captain, Tracy.

Even though it was soggy, freezing and gloomy, we had a great time catching up with each other.  Thanks again to everyone that supported us.  You guys rock!  And thanks Doc for the breakfast!

The Bean Interview - 5th Birthday

I am totally stealing today's blog post from a couple of other blogs but I honestly do not remember who I'm stealing this from.  So if I lifted this idea off of you, let me know and I'll gladly give you credit.  I'm not sure if theft by forgetfulness is an actual acceptable defense but that's what I'm going with.

The general idea is to ask your child the same set of questions on every birthday until they head off to college.  As you can see, since I'm starting this tradition on her 5th birthday, I've been a little slack in my job as an interviewer.  Hey, can I help if I didn't steal someone else's original idea sooner?

So here we go!

Staycation 2011!

Well Staycation 2011 has come and gone. We are back to our regularly scheduled lives now.

Boohoo!

We didn't do much on our vacation this year. We are trying to pay down on our debts so we really limited our vacation budget. But even without having tons of activities to do, we still enjoyed each other's company. At least I think we did.

On Monday, there was nothing planned so we hung out around the house and waited for it to cool off. Once it did, we took Bean to a local park that she really wanted to visit again. While there, I thought I'd check a geocaching app on my phone to see if there were any finds close by.  I had never heard of geocaching until a bloggy friend of mine, The Cakeologist, wrote about it in this post.

Sure enough there was a hidden treasure in the park. Hubz eventually found it because I wasn't too keen on the idea of picking my way through the great wilderness, i.e. the well manicured lawn. Nope, I didn't want to put my uncovered toesies in the brush near what may or may not have been poison ivy or run the risk of coming in contact with some heinous creature from hell like a snake or a deadly ladybug or whatnot. Yes, I am a Georgia girl born and bred but I shrink away from most outdoor activities of this sort which is why I plainly resemble Casper, The Friendly Ghost.

Once the hidden treasure was found, we opened it and looked inside. It was just a rolled up sheet of paper for folks to add their name and where they were from. It was interesting to read all the names and the places they lived. Bean wanted to see it so I told her to hold it up so I could take a picture of her with the tube.

She's nothing if not literal.

It was interesting.  We'll probably try and find another one or two, as long as Hubz is there to do the dirty work.

On Tuesday we visited the Georgia Aquarium.  We just knew that Bean would be amazed at all the fish and sea creatures there.  We were wrong.  She was really only interested in the slide and the gift shop.  (That's my girl!)  The aquarium has a section for kids to climb and slide through and that was her favorite part.  We showed her tank after tank of fish, whales, sea horses, starfish, you name it.  All I got out of her was "Look at that little girl's shoes!  They are pretty!"  All I could do was smile at Hubz and move along.  Again, that's my girl.

We finally got her to take a break from the climbing and sliding so that I could get a picture of the cutest little fish face you've seen all day.

I'll have more pictures to share with you tomorrow.

Excuse.

nationalgeographic.com
Please excuse me for the lack of posting. My heart just isn't into blogging for the past few days. But tomorrow I will be back with my new Etsy Share link party. This week's theme will be...

Summer Vacation

Next week us Beanies will be on vacation so that's what we have on the brain among other things. So anything that makes you think of summer or vacation or fun in the sun. Have fun with it and don't forget to share your treasury links tomorrow.  Also I have pictures to share of how we spent our pre-Fourth days.

It's my turn to be embarrassed.

So in the history of this blog, I have shared embarrassing stories about my boss, my husband, and Bean.  Well, not so much embarrassing to Bean now but I'm sure this whole blog will one day embarrass her into hating me.  Oh well.  Maybe she'll start her own blog.

I figured that it would only be fair to share an embarrassing story about me.  As they say "turn about is fair play" or something like that.  I am only really sharing this because it is such a cute Bean story and I want to be able to remember it when I'm older and gray-er.

This past weekend, one of Hubz' co-workers got married.  The bride and groom were gracious enough to invite us to their wedding.  It was held at a fancy Atlanta hotel in the evening.

I will be honest.  I did not want to go.  For as girlie as I am, I completely hate to dress up.  I used to like it when I was more comfortable with my weight and how I looked.  Not so much any more.  I had absolutely nothing at home that would suit the occasion that fit me.  So off to the store we went.

Hubz, Bean and I looked all over the women's department grabbing anything that I thought would fit.  I finally had enough things to try on and Bean and I ran off to the fitting rooms.

Bean selected our room and she climbed up on the seat to watch Mommy.  When I went to try on the first dress, Bean exclaimed...

"Oh thank you, Mommy, for wearing those Care Bear panties today!"

Oh, no, thank you, Bean, for broadcasting all throughout the Kohl's fitting room that your mommy put on twelve year-old panties that morning when she got dressed.  Thank you!

All I heard were giggles and laughs coming from the other stalls.

Yes, I have Care Bear panties.  Yes, I'm too lazy and/or cheap to buy new panties.  Now not only do my fellow Kohl's shoppers know this, so does the blogosphere.  There you go.

That's what you get for leaving the door open.

When I got home from work last night, there was a small gift bag on our entry table. I looked it over and asked Hubz where it came from. He looked at me and said, “well, there’s a story behind that bag.”

Uh oh. Maybe I should sit down.

Yesterday, Hubz picked Bean up from Nanny Red’s for me. When they got home, they decided to hang out outside for a bit. Bean wanted to get in her swing on the front porch, so, of course, Hubz complied.

The swinging didn’t sit well with Bean and after a bit, she got sick to her stomach. When I say sick, she got sick all over herself and her Daddy. Ewww...glad I was at work.

So Hubz wrangled her out of the swing and quickly rushed her into the bathroom and chunked put her in the tub. Hubz stripped Bean down and while the water was running, he took off his shorts and shirt. Now, don’t start calling DFACS on him yet. He had his undershirt and briefs on. He wasn’t doing any flashing.

But later on as he’s telling me this story, he says “you know when I was bathing Bean, I thought I heard something in the house.” Really? Why?

“Oh, I was in such a hurry to get her in the tub, I just left the front door open.”

(Loud sigh. Eyes rolling.)

“And then when I got her outta the tub and dressed again, we came out and that bag was just sitting there inside the door.”

(Panic.) Oh no.

See, we’ve been going to a new church for about three weeks now. The bag was from a deacon from this church. It’s a Baptist church and Baptists just loooooove to drop by.

Hubz believed that the bag dropper came to the door and knocked. When they saw the front door standing wide open with no one answering it, they probably did what any character in any standard horror movie does and came walking on in, only to see Hubz in his underoos bathing our puke-covered toddler. They probably were mortified and turned and ran as fast as their blessed little feet would take them.

Now, I’m mortified. We just can’t seem to make new friends.

I guess we’ll be trying another new church this weekend.
